Therapeutic Self-Disclosure

The Sun Room Psychology & Wellness believes in the ethical and intentional use of limited, clinically relevant self-disclosure. This may include content shared on social media that normalises the human experiences, models values-led living, or provides insight into their therapeutic style.

Research supports that, when used thoughtfully, self-disclosure can strengthen the therapeutic alliance, reduce perceived power imbalances, and foster client openness (Henretty & Levitt (2010) found that appropriate therapist self-disclosure is generally viewed positively by clients and can enhance connection and therapeutic depth when guided by clinical judgement).

However, if at any point you feel that viewing or consuming any content on social media is impacting your therapeutic experience - it is recommended that you unfollow or disengage from their public platforms. We encourage you to raise this in session if it becomes relevant to your therapeutic journey or emotional safety.

The Sun Room Psychology & Wellness are committed to your wellbeing and delivering ethical, evidence-based, and client-centred care. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’d like to discuss any part of this further.
